This method was developed by George Goodheart Jr. through the study of physiology, anatomy, neurology, biochemistry, and Chinese medicine. In his chiropractic practice, he noticed that muscle strength can provide extremely relevant information about the patient’s state of health. By testing certain points on the body, he found correlations with organ and gland function. Through treatment of these points, he noted that certain conditions improved. Goodheart continued researching until he created a total methodology to discover and correct these imbalances. Applied Kinesiology is now employed by many health care professionals who seek to offer more comprehensive treatment.
Because it was designed to be used in tandem with the practitioner’s area of expertise, this approach can be helpful in a variety of situations. For instance, applied kinesiology can be used as an aid in finding a nutritional plan that supports the client’s health as well as a means to identify specific food allergies and sensitivities. It can alleviate back pain and has been used in the treatment of diabetes, vertigo, and learning disabilities. In fact, this system can identify and treat such a wide range of disorders that it is impossible to name them all.
A core feature of applied kinesiology is muscle testing. This is the manual testing of muscle strength while holding particular points on the body. The technique reveals how well the nervous system is controlling the muscle and provides information to pinpoint the cause of the problem, so it can be resolved through the use of kinesiology or adjunct therapies.
A typical session employing applied kinesiology would most likely include a very detailed client history followed by gait and postural assessment. Muscle testing would follow and then, possible physical manipulation. The practitioner would also incorporate his or her specific medical training for diagnosis and treatment. This is a highly individualized approach that does not rely on general measures for specific dysfunctions. It customizes treatments for patients based on their unique profile.
Applied kinesiology is an excellent option for a myriad of health challenges. In a relatively short amount of time, the practitioner can determine the patient’s level of health and lengthy, diagnostic tests can often be avoided. Treatment is usually comfortable and stress free. This noninvasive therapeutic and diagnostic approach can provide desired results through a gentle but powerful process.
